(NEW) I haven’t received an email about interviews!! Can I do anything about this?

Fear not! We are conducting interviews on a rolling basis, and will be contacting batches one at a time. However, if you think you have what it takes to be in this program, then you are welcome to write an essay entitled “Why I am one of Malaysia’s 50 best interns” and email us directly at register@otak2.com with your updated resume.

Why the name “Otak-Otak?”

We believe that nation-building begins when people and ideas come together. We want to connect minds, those which are passionate and eager to contribute. Our name hopefully reflects our desire to build a program that connects Otak-Otak fellows with our corporate partners, as well as with each other, in meaningful, life-long relationships. The name is also a nod to one of our favorite Malaysian dishes, to remind us that wherever we go, Malaysia will still hold a unique place in our hearts.

I’m an interested company. What’s in it for me?
As a Corporate Partner, you should expect to be paired with exceptional Otak-Otak fellows who are eager to learn and contribute for a period of 2 months between June to September. They will ideally be assigned to work on specific projects for that period, at the level and responsibility of an executive in your company. In addition to the placed fellows, you and your company will be showcased to the other fellows on the program, who will all be placed at organizations and companies across the Klang Valley.

Prior and throughout the program, the program coordinators will also provide consultation and feedback services to you, in order to improve the internship experience for the Otak-Otak fellows as well as your overall internship program. Our aim is to improve internship standards across all industries, as well as raise the bar for future interns and their contribution during a work placement.

In order to register as a Corporate Partner, please email register@otak2.com.

I’m an interested student. What’s in it for me?
Students today are passionate about the work they do, and want to be challenged and appreciated. The Otak-Otak program aims to change the culture of internships in Malaysia by working closely with companies to provide interns with the best work experiences in the country. We provide consultation and feedback to companies to ensure both parties are satisfied with the internship.

In addition, interns on the Otak-Otak program will also participate in a comprehensive and intense after-work program, designed to expose them to the entire spectrum of the Malaysian work experience. This program will include exclusive events with CEOs, motivational speakers, leadership gurus and on-site visits to various sites.

What is the selection process for student leaders?

Fellows for the program are selected via an intensive application and interview process, conducted by the Otak-Otak program coordinators as well as the Corporate Partners. Otak-Otak will conduct the first round of interviews, after which we will match applicants with our Corporate Partners. After the Otak-Otak matching process, we will pass on shortlisted resumes to our Partners, who will then conduct the final portion of the process based on their internal requirements.

Fellows are generally Malaysian citizens who are studying at any university level at the time of application. However, we will consider extraordinary applicants who are about to enter or who have recently graduated from university. An applicant must have excellent academic and extra-curricular qualifications in order to be considered.

Otak-Otak fellows should also possess, in addition to paper qualifications, traits desirable to companies and organizations. These traits, which include humility, maturity and the ability to work in a team, will be assessed by the coordinators throughout the process.

What is the time period for this year’s internship?

In order to accommodate a range of vacation schedules, we have decided to offer two starting dates to interns in the June-September 2012 cohort. Upon acceptance, interns can choose to start on a) June 15, 2012 (ending August 15, 2012) or b) July 1, 2012 (ending 1 September, 2012). The two “batches” of interns will coincide for a period of roughly six weeks, during which time leadership training and Corporate Partner events will be held on a regular basis.
